Frequently asked questions
How does permanent hair removal with a diode laser work?
The melanin in the hair absorbs the laser light and carries it down to the root. The light energy destroys the root while the surrounding tissue is spared.
How many sessions do I need?
On average 6 to 8, depending on skin type and hair. Only hairs in the growth phase are connected to the root, so several sessions 4 to 8 weeks apart are needed.
Does it hurt?
Contact cooling in the handpiece keeps the skin constantly cool. The treatment is practically pain-free; sensitivity is of course individual. We are happy to do test pulses at the consultation.
Does it work on light or blonde hair?
Yes, thanks to the four wavelengths of the SkinTechBeauty 4W. White and grey hair cannot be treated.
How do I prepare?
Shave the day before. No epilating, tweezing or waxing for three weeks beforehand. Skin should not be tanned, so avoid sun, sunbeds and self-tanner.
What about aftercare?
Mild redness or swelling usually fades within 2 to 3 hours; aloe vera or a cool pack helps. Avoid intense sun for a few days, then use SPF 30 or higher.
Tattoos and moles?
Tattoos are covered, the surrounding area can be treated. Have prominent moles checked by a dermatologist first; otherwise we cover them.
When is laser treatment not possible?
With diabetes, clotting disorders, a pacemaker, pregnancy, epilepsy, skin cancer, photosensitising medication, or heavily tanned skin (we reschedule).
